What Township Trustees Do
In Illinois, township trustees play a vital role as the elected legislative body of the township, working collaboratively to serve our community. They meet regularly to approve annual budgets, ensuring township funds are allocated responsibly for essential services. These services may include maintaining township roads and bridges, providing general assistance to residents in need, and supporting community programs, depending on local priorities.
Trustees oversee township operations, set policies, and approve contracts or expenditures, ensuring tax dollars are used efficiently and transparently. They also have the authority to address local issues, such as property maintenance or, in some cases, the care of cemeteries, as outlined in the Township Code (60 ILCS 1/).

Beyond their legislative duties, trustees act as a voice for residents, listening to concerns and advocating for improvements that enhance our township’s quality of life.

Working alongside the township supervisor, clerk, and highway commissioner, trustees help maintain accountability and ensure our township runs smoothly. Their decisions are guided by state law and a commitment to meeting the unique needs of our community.
